Telegram Group Links: How to Find Active Indian Groups (and Avoid Dead Ones)

Search for “telegram group links” and you get pages of lists: hundreds of links, half of them dead, the rest unverified. Telegram’s own search is not much better — it only matches words in a group’s name and shows a handful of results. This guide explains where group links actually come from, which of the seven ways of finding groups work in India today, and the three things to check before you tap “Join”.

For scale: the catalog currently lists 386 English-language Telegram groups that pass the activity thresholds, with 5.9M members combined. Each group’s member count and online count are re-measured every day, so a group that dies drops out of the lists on its own.

Two kinds of group links

Invite links expire, get revoked or hit a member limit — that is why copied lists rot. Public usernames are stable, which is why this catalog only lists public groups.

1. In-app search: fast, narrow

Type the topic in the search box above your chat list. Under “Global search” Telegram lists public groups and channels whose name contains that word. Limits: the description is not searched, private groups never appear, the list is short, and neither member count nor activity is shown. Try spelling variants (“UPSC”, “upsc aspirants”, “ias”) — each gives a different short list.

2. A catalog: full list per topic, with member and activity data

A catalog collects public groups, sorts them by category and adds the two things the app hides: members and activity. Here every group’s online count is measured daily at peak hours; groups where fewer than 1% of members (and fewer than 5 people) are ever online do not pass the threshold and are not listed. 3. The discussion group under a channel

4. Links shared inside other groups

Members of a topic group constantly share related groups — “join our Hindi batch”, “the Mumbai chapter is here”. Ask in a group you already trust; the answers will be fresher than any website.

5. Link-list websites: use with care

Sites that publish “1000+ Telegram group links” are mostly filled by paid placement and rarely cleaned. Expect expired invites, groups that turned private, and a share of outright scam groups. If you use them, apply the three checks below before posting anything.

6. Directory bots

Some bots offer a group directory by category. Convenient, but the lists are hand-filled, often sponsored and not updated; there is no member or activity data. How bots work and which to trust is in the bots guide.

7. Searching outside Telegram

A Google search for site:t.me "upsc" scans Telegram’s public preview pages (t.me/s/…) and finds channels more than groups, but occasionally surfaces active groups. College forums, Reddit communities and YouTube descriptions are good sources for city, campus and batch groups.

Three checks before you join

1. Online members. The group profile shows “N members, M online”. 20,000 members with 12 online is a dead group or a bought one. This catalog uses exactly this check.
2. Last message date. Open the preview before joining; if the last message is days old, the conversation is over.
3. Rules and admins. No pinned rules, no visible admin and a first screen full of “VIP signals” or “guaranteed income” — leave. What good rules look like is in the group rules guide.
